Warm Bodies, Warm Bodies, Warm Bodies...Damn where do I start? First off, this movie is no Twilight, meaning its not utter crap ( The sooner everyone forgets about THAT shit pile the better). This movie was actually directed by Jonathan Levine, the guy who directed 50/50 another amazing movie about a man suffering from a form of spinal cancer with only a 50/50 chance of living. If you've seen 50/50 you'd know that Jonathan Levine is a director who can blend more than one genre into a movie and still make something great and Warm Bodies is no exception. If it fell into the hands of the wrong director, Warm Bodies definitely could've been awful and utterly forgettable. Thankfully, though this movie isn't. Warm Bodies tells the tale of a highly unusual zombie named R( played by Nicholas Hoult who was Beast in X-Men: First Class) who just wishes he could be different, wishes he could feel human again, yet is definitely more than a little dead. The highlights of his days include talking, or rather grunting and having "almost conversations" with his best friend( a fellow zombie played hilariously by Rob Corddry), fumbling around, and eating the brains of the humans he kills to see their memories. A few minutes into the movie, R runs into Julie (Teresa Palmer), the daughter of the hardened leader of a survival camp, Grigio (the great John Malkovich), a guy who shoots first, and asks questions later. Anyway, R falls madly in love with Julie and rescues her from being nearly killed, and gradually begins to become more human. this not only changes R, but spreads throughout the whole undead population, and also raises the threat, of a more feral race of zombies known as "The Bonies." The Bonies are what zombies eventually become and basically only live to devour anything with a heartbeat. With the impending threat of the hellish monsters, R and Julie must find a way to join forces to create a better world than ever thought possible. Now, I know the plot does sound potentially stupid, but I feel the selling point is this movies charm. You do care about the characters and R and Julies relationship, awkward and amusing as it is, is also, well for a lack of a better word, cute. R explains most of his thoughts in inner monologue and his expressions are spot-on. These little things really make him an charming, lovable, (and may I say adorable) creature that may just warm your heart too. Teresa Palmer isn't half-bad either as the female lead, and is definitely not dense or boring like ANOTHER heroine from an infamous paranormal romance. Finally although this movie does have some cheesy gag-worthy teen-romance moments and does take liberties with its zombies, It never bothered me too much. This movie is funny, cute, and a great date movie, or just one to see with your friends. So give it a try, I can assure you you won't be disappointed.
